photo essay.
We publish one photo essay per issue. This is a distinct and considered form: a sequence of no more than 5 black and white photographs in dialogue with a personal essay or narrative of no more than 2000 words. Neither the images nor the text should merely illustrate the other—they must earn their relationship on the page.
Photographs must be black and white, submitted at print resolution—300dpi minimum, greyscale. No heavy post-processing or digital manipulation. The essay component follows the same spirit as the personal essay criteria.
Accepted work may be used by Manna for promotional purposes — all other rights remain with the contributor.
NB: manna prints on uncoated stock and will be served better by photographs with higher contrast.
